today is a sad day

The world has been thrown into yet another senseless and unnecessary war by a self interested president who seeks only to place another dictator in iraq, only this time sypathetic to the US' interests, namely, oil. We have seen this throughtout South America. George W Bush, who doesn't even deserve the title "man", is an awful THING who has ignored the UN and set a precedent of defiance. THe UN will be doomed to the fate of the United Nations. Roosevelt would be spinning in his grave, as would dear Eleanor. This thing is elected to control the largest economy and largest cache of destructive weapons in the world, by a nation of people, amongst which voting is not compulsory. This thing is elected by the majority of the minority, when the elections run fairly. George W Bush was elected by the US High Court.George Bush may state humanitarian reasons as his grounds, but the US is the capital of the ulterior motive. Do the words "MArshall Plan" ring in anyone's ears? Every war is fought on economic grounds, be it land grab, colonialism or control of a countries resources.Australia cannot afford to participate in this war. We must readjust our priorities. Greater funding for universities, Medicare and environmental intiatives needs to be undertaken, not to mention serious funding of the PBS or a realistic Austudy payment to full time students. What about fostering Australian scientific and creative talent, creating intiatives to keep them in our own god damn country. We couldn't even send a PEACEKEEPING force to EAst fucking Timor without having to have an additional tax slapped upon us.I'm too fucked up to seriously write about all this, anyone who wants to know, come have a chat to me.In other news, I couldn't go to the protest as we had to see the play "Stolen," which is one of our English texts. It's about the stolen generations of Aboriginal children. My thoughts: (This will make sense if you are familiar with the text)***Jimmy was played really well and convincingly. Sandy lacked the ability to make the audience emphasise with his plight.***The text was edited well, with greater interaction between the main characters. In the text the action is very stop/start and jerky. The stories intertwined much better in the play. I asked the director about what her intentions were in editing the play, ie emphasises and fluidity changes, and she replied that it was for the above reasons.***The character of Anne was extended, her issues explored in greater depth. She was played very well, and her last scene (with improvised dialouge) was incredibly touching. The actress said that these were her improvements, as she felt that Anne's personality crisis was not adequately covered in the text.***I felt Ruby could have been explored in greater depth. I didn't feel her character came to a conclusion, unlike the others.***The play used some good non-naturalistic dramatic "functions?" such as exagerrated movements when playing white characters, wearing white clown noses. The set was simple and fucntional, using lighting and props to make use of a large open space and depict settings. I like the way Jimmy's cell was depicted, using a rectangular green light projected unto the floor, which he lay in.People were exceptionally rude during the performance, laughing inappropriately and talkign throughout. A group of yobbos thought they were at the cricket and tried to begin a mexican wave. At the end of the performance, the actress playing Anne quite bluntly said that she was disgusted that they were up there, telling their stories and opening up to the audience and being laughed at in return. It was a good call.I had to take public transport home, scarily and got home at quarter to eleven, It's weird, people don't bother you on the streets normally, but in school uniform i was petrified. And my git of a mother thinks that sucking up to me with bourbon makes up for it.. pfftlol
